Osteomyelitis is a widespread infection that can affect the lower jaw, making it a significant concern for clinicians. The speed and accuracy in handling osteomyelitis are crucial for the success of managing this infection. Therefore, knowledge of osteomyelitis among clinicians is an essential consideration in dealing with mandibular osteomyelitis. This study aims to determine the level of knowledge of dentistry students at the Faculty of Dentistry, University of North Sumatra (USU FKG) regarding osteomyelitis in the lower jaw and how to manage it.

Methodology: A Descriptive Study with a Cross-Sectional Survey Design

This study uses a descriptive method with a cross-sectional survey design. The subject of this study involved 95 dentistry students from USU FKG. Data collection was carried out through a closed online questionnaire that was distributed using Google Form, which is related to the lower jaw osteomyelitis and its management. The data collected is then analyzed univariate and presented in the form of frequency and percentage distribution table.

Results: Good Knowledge of Dental Students Regarding Osteomyelitis

The results of the study showed that the knowledge of dental students in USU FKG regarding the mandibular osteomyelitis and the handling is classified as good. In addition, based on age and gender characteristics, the results show that the average knowledge of respondents about the lower jaw osteomyelitis and its handling is also at a good level.
