Background

Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) continues to be a serious public health problem in Indonesia, with a significant number of cases reported in Medan Denai District. In 2014, the district recorded 94 cases and two deaths, highlighting the need for effective measures to control the spread of the disease. One of the efforts made to overcome this problem was the eradication of mosquito nests (PSN), which included the 3M Plus behavior (draining, Close, and bury) and the method of abatization. This study aims to determine the relationship between 3M plus behavior and abatization of the existence of Aedes Aegypti mosquito larvae in the region.

This study uses an observational analytic method with a cross-sectional design to collect data through interviews using questionnaires and direct observations at the respondent's house. This approach allows researchers to obtain more accurate information about community behavior related to mosquito control and its impact on the existence of larvae.

The results of the study show that the behavior of 3M Plus among the Medan Denai community was at a sufficient level, with most people practicing the 3M Plus behavior. However, only a few people carried out routine abatization. Statistical analysis shows that the 3M Plus behavior has a significant relationship with the existence of Aedes aegypti larvae, with the Fisher's Exact Test value of P = 0.029 (CI 95%). Meanwhile, abatization does not show a significant relationship with the presence of larvae, with p = 0.127 (CI 95%).

Furthermore, multiple logistic regression analysis confirms that both 3M Plus behavior (p = 0.017, CI 95% = 0.024 to 0.692) and abatization (p = 0.006, CI 95% = 1.835 to 39.867) have a significant association with the presence of Aedes aegypti larvae.

The data obtained from the study show that the 3M plus behavior is more influential than abatization in reducing the number of mosquito larvae. This suggests that people who are active in applying 3M Plus tend to have lower larvae. The Puskesmas is also expected to improve coordination with the community and health cadres to strengthen efforts to control DHF vectors. With this collective effort, it is expected that the incidence of DHF can be reduced, and the health of the community in Medan Denai District can be maintained properly.
