The Effect of Application of Good Governance Principles on Employee Effectiveness (Study at the Binjai Sub-District Office, Langkat Regency)

Good governance is a concept that has become increasingly relevant in the principles of democracy, community participation, and human rights. In the context of government, the application of these principles is crucial, especially for public agencies such as the Binjai Sub-District Office in Langkat Regency. This study aims to explore the relationship between the application of good governance principles and the effectiveness of employee work in the office.

Good governance is a concept that encompasses a set of principles and values that guide the behavior of governments and public agencies. These principles include transparency, accountability, participation, and responsiveness. In the context of public agencies, the application of good governance principles is essential to ensure that employees are able to carry out their duties effectively and efficiently. The effectiveness of employee work is defined as the ability to achieve predetermined goals, and it is measured by the extent to which employees can meet the targets and objectives expected by the institution.

This study uses the correlational method with quantitative analysis to explore the relationship between the application of good governance principles and the effectiveness of employee work in the Binjai Sub-District Office. The data collection was carried out through the distribution of questionnaires to 33 respondents who became samples. The questionnaires were designed to measure the application of good governance principles and the effectiveness of employee work in the office.

The results of the analysis show that the application of the principles of good governance in the Binjai Sub-District Office is in the medium category. This shows that even though there is an effort made, there is still space for improvement in the application of these principles. The effectiveness of employee work is also in the same category, which shows that employees in this office are able to carry out their duties, but not optimally.

Furthermore, the calculation results using the Product Moment correlation coefficient formula showed a value of 0.41. This value is greater than the R-table value at a significance level of 5% (α = 0.344) for n = 33, which means there is a positive relationship between the application of good governance principles with the effectiveness of employee work. This shows that the better the principles of governance applied, the more effective the performance of employees in the office.

The results of this study suggest that the application of good governance principles has a positive influence on the effectiveness of employee work in the Binjai Sub-District Office. However, the influence of the principles of good governance on the effectiveness of employee work only reached 17.06%. This shows that there are still 82.94% of other factors that affect the work effectiveness of employees outside the principles of good governance. These factors may include aspects of employee motivation, training and development, leadership, and work environment.

In conclusion, this study suggests that the application of good governance principles has a positive influence on the effectiveness of employee work in the Binjai Sub-District Office. However, further efforts are still needed to increase the application of these principles and pay attention to other factors that can affect performance employee. Therefore, recommendations for further research are to explore more in the factors that influence the effectiveness of employee work and identify concrete steps that can be taken to improve the application of good governance in public agencies.

Based on the findings of this study, the following recommendations are made:

Increase the application of good governance principles: The Binjai Sub-District Office should make a concerted effort to increase the application of good governance principles in the office.
Pay attention to other factors that affect performance employee: The office should pay attention to other factors that can affect the performance of employees, such as employee motivation, training and development, leadership, and work environment.
Conduct further research: Further research should be conducted to explore more in the factors that influence the effectiveness of employee work and identify concrete steps that can be taken to improve the application of good governance in public agencies.

This study has several limitations that should be noted. Firstly, the sample size of 33 respondents may not be representative of the entire population of employees in the Binjai Sub-District Office. Secondly, the study only measured the application of good governance principles and the effectiveness of employee work in the office, and did not explore other factors that may affect performance employee. Finally, the study only used a quantitative approach, and did not use a qualitative approach to explore the perspectives of employees in the office.
