Profile of Knowledge, Attitudes, and Behavior of Women of Childbearing Age Towards the Use of Hormonal Family Planning in Tembung Village, Percut Sei Tuan District

Introduction

In an effort to improve the quality of life of the community, the Family Planning Program (KB) is one of the important solutions for married couples. This program helps them in determining the desired number of children and birth spacing through the use of contraceptives. Nevertheless, challenges still exist, including high maternal and child mortality rates and uncontrolled population growth. The main cause of this problem is the lack of public understanding of the importance of family planning programs. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the profile of knowledge, attitudes, and behavior of women of childbearing age regarding the use of hormonal contraception in Tembung Village, Percut Sei Tuan District.

Research Purposes

This study aims to explore information about the knowledge, attitudes, and behavior of women of childbearing age associated with the use of hormonal family planning. Taking into account the age, the highest level of education, and the number of children they have, it is hoped that the factors that influence their attitudes and behavior can be identified in following the family planning program. Understanding these factors is crucial in designing effective programs to increase public awareness and understanding of the importance of family planning.

Research Methods

This study uses a descriptive method with a cross-sectional approach. The sampling technique used is non-probability sampling, especially accidental sampling. Data was collected through a questionnaire that had been tested for validity and reliability, which was then filled in by respondents. The questionnaire was designed to gather information about the respondents' knowledge, attitudes, and behavior towards hormonal family planning.

Research Result

Of the 100 respondents who participated, most have a very good level of knowledge, with a percentage of 46%. Analysis based on the characteristics of respondents shows that the majority of women from various age groups, education levels, and the number of children have excellent knowledge about hormonal family planning. This suggests that the respondents have a good understanding of the importance of family planning and the use of hormonal contraceptives.

Furthermore, the attitude of the respondents showed a high agreement, where 96% agreed to the family planning program. This indicates that the respondents have a positive attitude towards family planning and are willing to participate in the program. In terms of behavior, 53% of respondents show positive behavior towards the use of contraceptives. This suggests that the respondents are taking steps to practice family planning and are using hormonal contraceptives.

Additional analysis of the characteristics of respondents indicates that most of them, both in the age group, education, and the number of children, have positive behavior. This suggests that the respondents' behavior is influenced by their knowledge and attitudes towards family planning.

Conclusion

From the results of the study, it can be concluded that most women of childbearing age in Tembung Village have excellent knowledge, positive attitudes, and behaviors that support the use of hormonal family planning. In addition, analysis based on age, education, and the number of children shows consistency in results that support the use of family planning. This good knowledge and positive attitude are important in encouraging increasing community participation in family planning programs, which in turn can contribute to reducing maternal and child mortality and population control in the region.

By understanding the factors that influence the knowledge, attitudes, and behavior of women of childbearing age towards hormonal family planning, it is expected that various parties, including the government and health institutions, can design more effective programs to increase public awareness and understanding of the importance of family planning. This can lead to increased community participation in family planning programs, which can contribute to reducing maternal and child mortality and population control in the region.
