Analysis of Factors that Influence the Demand for Financing Small Businesses at BPRS Puduarta Insani Medan

Introduction

The demand for financing small businesses is a crucial aspect of economic growth, particularly in developing countries. In Indonesia, the banking sector, including Islamic banks, plays a significant role in providing financing to small businesses. This study aims to analyze the factors that influence the demand for small business financing distributed by BPR Syariah Puduarta Insani in Medan. The study focuses on the period of 2000-2005 and uses multiple regression methods with the Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) approach to analyze the data.

Background

The banking sector in Indonesia has undergone significant changes in recent years, with the introduction of Islamic banking. BPR Syariah Puduarta Insani is one of the Islamic banks in Medan that provides financing to small businesses. The bank's financing products are based on the principles of Islamic banking, which emphasize fairness, transparency, and risk-sharing. The bank's financing products include mudharabah savings, mudharabah deposits, and profit-sharing.

Methodology

This study uses multiple regression methods with the Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) approach to analyze the data. The dependent variable used is the financing of small businesses distributed, while the independent variables consist of mudharabah savings, mudharabah deposits, and percentage of profit sharing. The data analyzed were processed using EViews 6.0 software to facilitate the statistical calculation and analysis process.

Results

The estimation results show that independent variables have a significant influence on the demand for small business financing. First, the number of mudharabah savings shows a significant positive effect on small business financing with a significance level of 1% alpha. This means that the higher the amount of mudharabah savings, the greater the interest of small businesses to get financing. This can be explained by increasing customer confidence in banks and their desire to expand their efforts.

However, the mudharabah deposit variable shows a negative effect on the financing of small businesses distributed. This may be caused by the fact that mudharabah deposits have a more liquid and conservative nature, where customers tend to choose to invest their funds in the form of deposits rather than taking risks by submitting financing for business.

In addition, the percentage of profit sharing also has a negative impact on the demand for small business financing. This could be because people who have the potential to submit financing are worried about the amount of profit sharing that must be paid. Uncertainty in the calculation of profit and potential losses can cause them to hesitate to commit to the financing.

Discussion

The results of this study provide valuable insights on the dynamics of demand for small business financing at BPRS Puduarta Insani Medan. By understanding the factors that influence, the management of Islamic banks can formulate a more appropriate strategy to attract customer interest in submitting financing. This can include an increase in promotion about the benefits of mudharabah savings and provide a deeper explanation of the mechanism for revenue sharing to reduce customer fear.

The study also highlights the importance of mudharabah savings in increasing customer confidence and interest in submitting financing. This suggests that Islamic banks should focus on promoting mudharabah savings as a financing product that can provide benefits to customers.

Conclusion

This research provides valuable insights on the dynamics of demand for small business financing at BPRS Puduarta Insani Medan. The study highlights the importance of mudharabah savings in increasing customer confidence and interest in submitting financing. The results of this study can be used by the management of Islamic banks to formulate a more appropriate strategy to attract customer interest in submitting financing.

Recommendations

Based on the results of this study, the following recommendations are made:

Increase promotion about the benefits of mudharabah savings: Islamic banks should increase promotion about the benefits of mudharabah savings to attract customer interest in submitting financing.

Limitations

This study has several limitations. First, the study only focuses on the period of 2000-2005, which may not be representative of the current market conditions. Second, the study only analyzes the data from BPR Syariah Puduarta Insani in Medan, which may not be representative of other Islamic banks in Indonesia.

Future Research Directions

This study provides a foundation for future research on the demand for small business financing in Indonesia. Future studies can focus on analyzing the data from other Islamic banks in Indonesia, as well as exploring other factors that influence the demand for small business financing.
