The Influence of Career Development, Education Level, and Work Skills on the Performance of Medan Religious Court Employees

Introduction

The performance of employees in any organization is a critical factor in achieving its goals and objectives. In the context of the Medan Religious Court, employee performance is essential in ensuring the effective administration of justice and the delivery of quality services to the public. However, the factors that influence employee performance in this organization are not well understood. This study aims to investigate the effect of career development, education level, and work skills on the performance of Medan Religious Court employees.

Literature Review

Research has shown that career development, education level, and work skills are critical factors in determining employee performance (Kotler, 2003; Porter & Lawler, 1968). Career development refers to the process of acquiring new skills, knowledge, and experiences that enable employees to grow and advance in their careers (Noe, 1988). Education level is also an important factor, as it provides employees with the foundation knowledge and skills necessary to perform their jobs effectively (Hanushek & Rivkin, 2006). Work skills, on the other hand, refer to the specific abilities and competencies required to perform a particular job (Sackett & Wanek, 1996).

Methodology

This study used a causal associative research design with a quantitative approach. The population of the study consisted of all employees of the Medan Religious Court, including structural, functional, and implementing officers. A total of 100 employees participated in the study, with a response rate of 80%. Data were collected through the distribution of questionnaires with a Likert scale and analyzed using descriptive statistics and multiple linear regression.

Results

The results of the study showed that career development, education level, and work skills had a significant effect on employee performance. The F test revealed a significance value of 0.001, indicating that the three variables together had a significant influence on employee performance. However, further analysis using the t test showed that work skills were the most dominant variable affecting employee performance, with a significance value of 0.001.

Discussion

The finding that work skills were the most dominant factor influencing employee performance is consistent with previous research (Sackett & Wanek, 1996). This suggests that the mastery of specific skills and competencies is critical in achieving optimal work results. Some factors that may contribute to the dominant influence of work skills include the role of skills in meeting the challenges of the task, skills as a driving force for innovation and efficiency, and sustainable skills development.

The results of this study have several implications for improving the performance of Medan Religious Court employees. Firstly, it is essential to improve the quality and quantity of training programs that focus on developing skills relevant to the duties and job responsibilities. Secondly, increasing access to training programs, both internal and external, is necessary to ensure that all employees have the same opportunity to develop skills. Finally, a more comprehensive performance appraisal system development is required to evaluate not only work results but also mastery of employee skills and adaptability.

Conclusion

This study confirms that career development, education level, and work skills have a significant influence on the performance of Medan Religious Court employees. Among the three, work skills are a dominant factor. These results provide important insights for the Medan Religious Court in developing programs and strategies that focus on improving employee skills to improve performance and achieve organizational goals.

Recommendations

Based on the findings of this study, the following recommendations are made:

Improvement of training and skills development: The Medan Religious Court should improve the quality and quantity of training programs that focus on developing skills relevant to the duties and job responsibilities.
Increasing access to training: The court should increase access to training programs, both internal and external, to ensure that all employees have the same opportunity to develop skills.
Improvement of Performance Appraisal System: A more comprehensive performance appraisal system development is required to evaluate not only work results but also mastery of employee skills and adaptability.

Limitations

This study has several limitations. Firstly, the sample size was relatively small, which may limit the generalizability of the findings. Secondly, the study relied on self-reported data, which may be subject to biases and errors. Finally, the study did not control for other factors that may influence employee performance, such as job satisfaction and organizational commitment.
