Introduction

Serdang Bedagai Regency, located in North Sumatra Province, has been identified as a region with great potential in the development of animal husbandry, particularly in the beef cattle business. The study conducted between September 2017 and January 2018 aimed to analyze the availability of resources in the area, with a focus on the potential of animal husbandry resources in Serdang Bedagai Regency in the development of beef cattle. This study employed a survey method, which consisted of several stages, including stratification, sampling, and observation and interviews with breeders.

Methodology

The study was conducted in three sub-districts, namely Dolok Masihul, Dolok Merawan, and Sei Rampah, which were selected through purposive sampling. From each of these sub-districts, 10 breeders were taken to be observed and interviewed. The survey method was used to collect data on the availability of resources in the area, including natural resources, human resources, capital, and technology.

Results

The results of the study showed that animal husbandry resources in Serdang Bedagai Regency still have great potential to develop beef cattle business. Some aspects that support this potential include:

The availability of fertile land and various types of natural animal feed such as grass, leaves, and seeds can increase the productivity of beef cattle.
